About the role:
We are currently hiring for a Building Safety Manager to join our thriving Housing service.
The Building Safety Manager position is to take responsibility for and cooperate with the Principal Responsible Person and Responsible Person/s in relation to whole building safety by coordinating and assuring all building-related activities to ensure compliance with the requirements for the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and associated statutory and internal building safety management system requirements across the Council’s housing stock. This position will coordinate access to quality information related to the development and maintenance of the Building Safety Case and Safety Case Reports and Building Assurance Certificates pertaining to high-rise buildings and facilitate appropriate opportunities to support stakeholder training needs.
Waltham Forest Council is responsible for 12,000 properties. There are 21 high rise buildings in Waltham Forest, which along with the other Building Safety Manager will form the bulk of your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, Health and Safety Regulations, and CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations.
- Act as the primary contact for building safety, maintaining openness and trust with residents to ensure safety.
- Lead the development and implementation of building safety strategies, including fire risk assessments and safety cases.
- Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with safe practices for maintenance and post-construction work.
- Maintain and manage the "Golden Thread" of safety information, ensuring it is up-to-date and accessible.
- Ensure all involved in building maintenance have the necessary competence and training.
- Engage and educate residents on building safety responsibilities and act on their concerns.
- Implement and manage a Mandatory Occurrence Reporting regime for building safety incidents.
- Manage resources to deliver Building Safety Cases for high-risk and complex buildings, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Respond to emergency callouts, restoring services and supporting residents in line with business continuity plans.
Qualifications and Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:
- Must be able to travel to sites as required.
- Physically able to access all areas e.g., climb stairs, access restricted spaces/service areas, use ladders to inspect roof/void spaces, etc.
- Be able to attend evening or weekend meetings when necessary and arrange for appropriate out-of-hours and emergency responses
- Working knowledge of the relevant Building Safety Legislation (Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, Duty of Care).
- Working knowledge relating to managing the delivery of building safety compliance or the built environment.
- Relevant Asset Management, Construction and/or Fire Safety qualifications (Degree or diploma in construction or fire safety) or equivalent.
- Current professional membership e.g., RICS, IFE, IFSM, IOSH, IIRSM, CQI, etc. or currently working towards attaining.
- A good level of IT literacy.
