Who You Are

You are a qualified and experienced social worker with a degree in social work or equivalent, and current registration with SWECC. You have a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in statutory children’s social care service. You demonstrate in-depth knowledge of relevant legislative frameworks, statutory guidance, and the theory and practice of care assessment.

You possess excellent skills in needs-led assessment and planning, effective communication, partnership working, and organisational skills. You are adept at managing complex and varied caseloads, applying critical reflection, and developing practical knowledge across defined specialist areas. You exhibit a commitment to professional development, equality, diversity, and ethical standards, with the ability to demonstrate empathy and client-centred judgment.

What the Job Involves

As a social worker in the People Directorate Young People & Families team at Sefton Council, you will hold and manage a complex and varied caseload, reflecting the team and children's social care function. Your responsibilities will include preparing written statements for judicial processes, making complex decisions, delivering protective and supportive services for children in need or at risk, and conducting direct work with children, young people, and families.

Your role will involve attending multi-disciplinary forums, undertaking Achieving Best Evidence interviews, maintaining accurate data records, and upholding data protection laws. You will collaborate with colleagues and multi-agency partners, model critical and evidence-based decision-making, engage in performance reviews, and oversee social work students’ practice learning placements.
