About the role
As a Trainee Associate Quantity Surveyor, you would be a part of a team who are working throughout our portfolio of projects to provide validation of Actual Costs, cost assure, support estimating activities, reviewing of Early Warning Notices, supporting in Notices of Compensation Events, supporting actual Compensation Events and Project Risk Registers.
The Associate Quantity Surveyor role responsibilities include:
- Support tender activities where required, using benchmark data and cost estimates
- Support audit of Subcontractors works on site against Valuations/ Payment Certificates
- Supporting Invoice reconciliation
- Providing cost Value Report Appraisal
- Overseeing the validation of Contractor’s forecast
- Assist in contractual claims, and the Early Warning/ Compensation Event process.
- Support the risk management process through the facilitation of risk workshops and updating the core risk management applications
- Identify efficiencies / deficiencies at post-project reviews.
- Undertake cost assurance on various elements of contractors quotations – challenge and request further substantiation as and when required in order to fully verify numbers
About the programme
Due to the amount of travel to our site locations, you’ll be issued with a company car (due to being both a business requirement and for personal use this will be subject to BIK tax, there is no option for a cash alternative). This means you will need to have a valid full UK Driving License prior to application. This will be verified at your assessment centre should you be successful.
Our training programmes are designed to give you the confidence, skill and technical knowledge needed to become an Associate Quantity Surveyor within National Grid at the end of the training programme. We proactively encourage accreditation through RICS or CICES once your degree conversion is complete. This is a role for someone who likes to travel between office and site locations as well as interacting with people as much as possible. You’ll be building your skills from day one; finding out how things work, liaising with stakeholders, and learning from a variety of enthusiastic, dedicated colleagues.
The classroom training is typically based at our training centre in Eakring, Nottinghamshire, so you will be required to spend time away from home for a portion of the scheme and the role itself requires driving to different sites across the region.
The starting date for this role is the 09th May 2025, all applicants must be able to commit to this start date. Applications will close on 11th of November and successful applicants will be contacted to progress to Teams Online Interviews throughout November/December 2024. Following this a face-to-face Assessment Centre would be held at our training centre in Eakring (Nottinghamshire) on the 18th OR 19th of February 2025. All applicants must be able to commit to attending one of these Assessment Centre dates should they be successful in the initial recruitment stages.
What you'll need
?
- You should hold a minimum of a 2.2 in a Degree, this can be in any subject. In addition to at least one year in role where you demonstrate the below skills:
- Fundamental understanding of project management, scheduling principles or cost management.
- Commercial acumen.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
- Excellent influencing, persuading, communicating, challenging and negotiation skills.
- Flexibility to travel will be required within this role, annually you’re expected to travel more than 10,000 miles for business across our regions in England and Wales (North / Central / London & South). This will include overnight stays away from home in pre-booked accommodation frequently. You must have a full valid UK driving license to proceed with your application.
Please be aware we have a number of career change and/or reskilling roles in other fields such as Project Supervisor, Power Systems Engineering and Quantity Surveying as well as Graduate and Higher Apprenticeship scheme opportunities – should we feel you’re better suited to another role you may be offered this as an alternative.
