To help manage growth and ensure that UCL operates an efficient campus, UCL has developed a logistics strategy, which focuses on consolidating all incoming deliveries, minimizing, and managing vehicle movements on the campus. UCL’s Mail services team is based in a central post room in the Institute of Education and provides a delivery and collection service across all UCL.
The Logistics Team manages all external shared spaces, maximizing the potential of the central storage facility and managing offsite consolidation and storage facilities, to enable greater supply chain consumer efficiencies, whilst delivering bulk purchase cost saving opportunities and ensuring there are wider benefits to the student and staff experience at UCL.
The Logistics and Mail Team has expanded rapidly since the opening of the Logistics Hub in 2020 from seventeen to thirty-five team members and we are now recruiting for a Logistics Manager who will help us to improve the overall efficiency of the team.
The Logistics Services Manager is a senior role reporting to the Logistics and Mail Service Manager in the UCL Estates Department, Campus Experience and Infrastructure, and reflects the importance of integrating centralised logistics across all UCL functions including construction, maintenance, engineering, and departmental deliveries that facilitate the day to day running of the University.
You will develop and implement best practice in logistics management across UCL, to enhance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the campus. Taking advantage of significant service synergies, the Logistics Manager will have direct management responsibility for UCL’s logistics services with associated line management and operational responsibilities.
To succeed in this role you must have practical experience of managing goods inwards, storage and distribution services, and experience of line managing employees of various grades and abilities. You are able to set appropriate challenges and targets and be clear around individual responsibilities, and you are able to demonstrate a collaborative approach, able and willing to work closely with others to develop effective solutions to logistics and other operational issues
You have excellent planning and organisational skills with a flexible, responsive attitude
able to meet constantly changing demands and priorities, and strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively and give clear instructions to students, staff, visitors, members of the public and vehicle drivers on campus. Additionally, you have the ability to work flexibly and respond to changing demands and priorities.
