The role involves conducting timely assessments in line with the relevant Framework to evaluate risk and needs, providing protective or supportive services for children in care. It requires formulating and implementing care plans through collaboration with parents, families, and multi-agency colleagues to improve outcomes for these children. The position also entails preparing high-quality court statements and, when necessary, presenting evidence in court on behalf of the Local Authority.
The role focuses on promoting the welfare of children in need, considering various factors like age, sex, health, race, religion, culture, and life experience. Responsibilities include providing verbal and written reports for panels, reviews, conferences, and meetings, maintaining and updating skills and knowledge of current legislation and social work practices, and utilizing IT systems for duties. Managing an individual caseload effectively, ensuring proper use of time and resources, and attending supervision and performance appraisals are also key aspects.
Additionally, the role involves contributing to service development through team meetings and organizational events, maintaining accurate electronic case records, authorizing and monitoring case expenditures, and acting as duty officer on a rota basis as required. Adhering to health and safety legislation, reporting concerns about abuse or malpractice in line with the Council’s Whistle Blowing Policy, and adjusting activities to meet service needs are also part of the responsibilities.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated social worker passionate about long-term work with children and young people who are in our care. The candidate should have excellent skills in developing and sustaining relationships to support, promote and create change for our children and young people, improving on their outcomes and lives.
We need a social worker who can:
- To deliver a high-quality social work service to children and young people in care, working in partnership with their families and other statutory and third sector organisations.
- To work with children in care and their families to secure stable, safe permanent care arrangements.
- To undertake Corporate Parent Responsibility, robustly implementing the identified needs of the children and young people within their care plan.
- To undertake child protection and safeguarding enquiries, assessment work with children and young people within our care, meeting their holistic needs.
- Progress and achieve permanence for all children and young people through adoption, special guardianship or long-term foster care, undertake court work, including preparation of quality statements.
- To participate in team and other service meetings and activities as appropriate.
